Structural concrete laboratory IBETON

As part of the ENAC faculty in the field of Civil Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the team of the Structural concrete laboratory is active in the domain of reinforced concrete structures

Goals

IBETON aims at educating future engineers for the conceptual design and dimensioning of reinforced concrete structures IBETON Masters projects give students the opportunity to approach complex problems related to concrete structures

Trough its reseach, IBETON contributes to a bette understanding of the behavior of reinforced concrete structures. In particular, the assessment of the actual strength of existing structures is essential to guarantee the safety of structures in use without unnecessarily increas their exploitation cost.

By its service activities, IBETON contributes to spreading its understanding of the behavior of concrete structures and the newest research results.

Teaching

Teaching by IBETON spans from the beginning of the Bachelot to the doctoral school. Bachelor courses focus on the understanding of the behavior of structure and their material components.

Master and doctoral school courses focus on more specific domains such as concrete bridge design, stress fields and hte interaction between engineers and architects.

Research

IBETON research spans the wide domain of reinforced concrete structures.

Fondamental aspects of the behavior of concrete strucvtures are investigated applying stress fields: shear strength of beams, slabs ans shells, as well as punching shear.

Innovation is central to reseach on new structural types as well as innivative materials such as textile-reinforced concrete or ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete.

Services

The structural concrete Laboratory IBETON of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is available and ready to collaborate with design offices, industrial parners and public entities as part of private or public mandates.
